From Monday to Friday, there are 4 days between the dates, but 5 days if you count both. Both answers are right; they answer different questions.
Use the first count for how long until something, a deadline, or nights away. Use the count with both dates for days you are present, such as the days of an event or the days of leave you take.

Weeks, months and years between two dates
To give the time between dates in larger units, weeks are always 7 days, so they come straight from the day count. Months are different lengths, so whole months are counted on the calendar: one month from a date is the same day next month, or the last day of that month if the day does not exist.

Spreadsheets using DATEDIF count Jan 31 to Feb 28 as 0 months and 28 days, because February has no 31st. This calculator follows the month-end rule instead, so the two can differ by a month on dates near the end of a month.
Questions about counting days between dates
Does the count include the start date?
The main result does not: it is the end date minus the start date. The "counting both dates" figure adds one day. Oct 5, 2026 to Oct 9, 2026 is 4 days, or 5 counting both.
Are leap days counted?
Yes. Every real day is counted, so Feb 28, 2028 to Mar 1, 2028 is 2 days because 2028 has a February 29.
How many weekdays are between two dates?
The weekdays figure counts Mondays to Fridays after the start date, up to and including the end date. It does not remove public holidays.
How many days until my birthday?
